(2)validating the determination of left ventricular mass by transesophageal echocardiography as compared to transthoracic echocardiography
(3)assessing the significance of mitral regurgitation as a protective factor against left atrial spontaneous echo contrast and thrombus as assessed by transesophageal echocardiography
(4)determining risk factors for mortality and morbidity in patients over 75 years undergoing open heart surgery
