hypertension, clinical trials (assessment of mechanical prosthetic valve function, surgery and management in young patients with active rheumatic carditis, surgery for patients with bacterial endocarditis and assessment of operative results in patients undergoing mitral commissurotomy) and gained experience in echo-Doppler, holter monitoring, exercise testing and bedside

hemodynamic monitoring.

* transesophageal echocardiography

* transthoracic echocardiography

* dobutamine stress echocardiography

Major projects included:

(1)validation of color Doppler parameters for the quantification of aortic regurgitation as assessed by aortography

(2)validating the determination of left ventricular mass by transesophageal echocardiography as compared to transthoracic echocardiography

(3)assessing the significance of mitral regurgitation as a protective factor against left atrial spontaneous echo contrast and thrombus as assessed by transesophageal echocardiography

(4)determining risk factors for mortality and morbidity in patients over 75 years undergoing open heart surgery
